Is Wilmington, Delaware Worth Visiting? A 1-Day Itinerary Guide

One day I wondered, “Is Wilmington, Delaware worth visiting?” Once I realized that I had no idea what to do there, I figured, why not spend a day and find out? A four-hour drive later, I did just that! Here is my day guide if you’re looking for fun things to do in Wilmington, Delaware:

Book a candle making class at Make & Mellow

Hear me out: I know it may be a little odd to take a candle-making class when you’re on a time crunch and only in town for a day, but I implore you to add Make & Mellow to your itinerary. Located in the heart of the historic district, you’ll be in for a fun, laid-back, and rewarding experience, crafting something with intention. Whether you’re seasoned in candle making, as I am, or new to the experience, Kim (the owner) will happily walk you through the process, explaining the science and craft of making a candle that feels (and smells) like you.

Things just got even more mellow over there because they now offer wine as an option to be a part of your candle-making experience, too! Book your experience here

Immerse Yourself at Bridge Art Gallery

Less than a ten-minute drive from Make & Mellow, slow down and immerse yourself at Bridge Art Gallery. This community-driven art gallery has given local and national artists the space to showcase their work. With its rotating monthly exhibits, I can promise this isn’t just another “mundane art gallery”. The owners, Cheryl and Christopher Mack, have created an experience that is welcoming to all who walk through the door and will leave you wondering what’s in store for next month’s showing.

Need help understanding a particular piece? We encountered this situation, and Cheryl exuberantly explained the piece, the artist, and other pieces as well. Safe to say, you’ll leave as an art connoisseur yourself!

Slow Down at Tubman-Garrett Riverfront Park

History is all around us, and what better way to learn about one of the original 13 colonies and the pioneers who frequented the area at a serene park? Situated alongside the Christina River, Wilmington was a ‘railway’ stop on the Underground Railroad, where hundreds of slaves came through Wilmington to reach freedom in New York, New England, and Canada.

End Your Day at Del Pez

Located along the waterfront, Del Pez Mexican Restaurant is a great place to grab a bite and end your day with great food and atmosphere. With crafted cocktails (and mocktails) and a menu that’s not too overwhelming, it’s a great place to wrap up your night of exploration, whether you’re a taco lover or willing to be adventurous, as I was, and order sushi (no regrets on my end).

Closing Remarks

This small state is full of culture and ambience, and yes, it is truly worth visiting! I hope this guide has encouraged you to add this to your list of the best things to do in Wilmington, Delaware!

Stay safe and stay blessed,
