From Corporate Life to a Leap of Faith

Working 20+ years in the corporate world, Barbara’s job started to face position eliminations, which pushed her to start thinking about her future and what was next for her. After jokingly talking with her husband about opening a donut truck, they took a trip to Nashville, Tennessee, that lit a flame and inspired Barbara to pursue a new opportunity. A year later, job slashes came in and left Barbara with two options: sit at another desk for possibly another 20+ years or take a leap of faith and pursue her dreams.

A New Chapter: The Opening of Café Nectar

With the support of her husband, Glazed and Infused (their previous name) was on the road serving up fresh donuts and pastries in the Hampton Roads community. Fast-forward to March of 2026: Barbara came across a storefront that is quaint and intimate and introduced a new name as well—Cafe Nectar! More space equals more opportunities to expand the menu. They started off with three different styles of donuts and now offer beignets, croissants, and cake donuts while locally sourcing their coffee beans and nitro coffee from vendors in the area.

With the new name and location up and running, Barbara’s new goal for Café Nectar was to establish a new name for herself and step outside of just the donut-making scene. “My brain never shuts off,” Barbara admits, as she brainstorms ideas to help set the physical location and the food truck apart. Bouncing around endless pastry ideas with her baking mentor, Barbara realized she wanted to create something that is instantly recognizable—homemade pop-tarts! After experimenting more than five times to nail the perfect recipe and flavors, Barbara’s vision came to life. Café Nectar’s new distinction has been a community crowd-pleaser ever since.

Barbara and her staff value every customer and their experience, and if you ever have a question, her staff is ready to help and assist you in picking the perfect pastry to be happy to leave with!

Let’s continue to show our support to small businesses and local businesses in the area.

Positively,
